Do you suspect you or your partner may have sleep apnea? Do you suffer from mild to moderate sleep apnea? Are you supposed to wear a CPAP to sleep at night but have given up?
Does your significant other snore and keep you awake? Do you have to sleep in another room? Does your snoring leave you feeling tired after a night of sleep?
Snoring — which can be a symptom of sleep apnea — and sleep apnea occurs because of the soft tissue in your throat relaxing during sleep. How much the tissue collapses determines the severity of your problem. In some cases, you will totally obstruct the airway which will cause you to stop breathing.
Sleep apnea untreated can cause many health problems. The Mayo Clinic recognizes the following medical conditions can occur because of sleep apnea: daytime fatigue. high blood pressure, increase your risk of recurrent heart attack, stroke and abnormal heartbeats, such as atrial fibrillation. increases your risk of developing insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome. People with sleep apnea might be more likely to have complications after major surgery because they're prone to breathing problems, and are more likely to have abnormal results on liver function tests, and their livers are more likely to show signs of scarring (nonalcoholic fatty liver disease).
Breathing cessation can happen hundreds of times during the night and chances are you are totally unaware of this. In other cases, you may be snoring so loudly that your spouse is sleeping elsewhere or suffering sleep deprivation from your noise. In either case, we can help you solve your apnea problem.
Our office offers a custom made device for mild to moderate sleep apnea and snoring. It is designed to gently open your airway while you sleep with a custom-fitted appliance.
Having the device made involves a trip to the office where your Care Coordinator will take an impression of your teeth. Once your impression is made it generally takes two to three weeks to have your appliance made and delivered.
